OVERVIEW

Alphonse Island offers something few other fly fishing destinations can: world-class flats fishing in one of the most exclusive and luxurious resort settings on the planet.

If you’re here to fish, you’ll have access to the iconic flats of St. Francois — home to vast shoals of bonefish, tailing triggerfish, cruising GTs, Indo-Pacific permit, milkfish, and more. Whether you’re stalking the flats on foot or sight-casting from a skiff, each day is a masterclass in saltwater fly fishing, guided by a team of true professionals.

But what makes Alphonse so unique is what happens off the water. Elegant beach bungalows and villas, a full-service spa, gourmet cuisine, a dive centre, and guided eco-experiences make it ideal for couples, families, and friends alike. Non-angling guests can explore coral reefs, bike jungle trails, kayak secluded beaches, or simply unwind with a cocktail in hand at sunset.

Alphonse is more than a fishing trip — it’s a complete island experience. Whether you’re chasing the fish of a lifetime or simply seeking tropical solitude, this is the kind of place that gets under your skin in all the right ways.

ACCOMMODATION

At Alphonse Island, barefoot luxury meets thoughtful design. You’ll stay in a Beach Bungalow or Villa just steps from the water, with air conditioning, private outdoor showers, and elegant island style. Villas include spacious living areas and private plunge pools for the ultimate in comfort.

You’ll explore the island by bike — your own fixed-gear cruiser — and may even share the path with a giant tortoise after dark, so don’t forget your torch.

Meals are exceptional, built around fresh garden produce and daily seafood catches. Dine under the stars, enjoy a cocktail at the beachside Barnacles bar, or unwind with a sundowner at the elegant Le Lys lounge.

A full-service spa, dive center, and fly shop round out the experience, ensuring there’s always something to enjoy between tides. And each evening, the “bell-ringers” ceremony brings guests together to celebrate standout catches with stories, smiles, and a badge to remember it by.

THE FISHING

Alphonse Island might be home to a luxury resort, but don’t let that fool you — the fishing here is seriously good too. With access to over 10,000 acres of white sand flats, the scale and variety of this fishery is hard to overstate.

You’ll spend your guided days exploring St. François Atoll, a vast and diverse system known for its consistent shots at Giant Trevally, Indo-Pacific Permit, Triggerfish, and Bonefish, along with Milkfish and a long list of other species. In fact, over 60 species have been caught on fly here, including Bluefin, Golden, and Brassy Trevally, Parrotfish, Snapper, Grouper, and Barracuda.

The GTs here are no joke — powerful, aggressive, and found in water that can go from ankle-deep to chest-deep in a few steps. When the tide lines up, it gets fast and visual. The Permit fishing is technical but consistent, and the Milkfish fishery is among the best in the world for anglers looking to take on that particular challenge.

You’ll wade most of the time, with access to fishable water that seems to stretch forever. But if you prefer fishing from the skiff, the guides can adjust the plan. And yes, you can catch Bonefish right off the beach in front of your villa.

There’s also a strong bluewater option for those wanting a shot at Sailfish, Wahoo, Dogtooth and Yellowfin Tuna, Dorado, or even Marlin — all of which can be targeted on fly or conventional gear when conditions allow.

You’ll want 8–12 wt rods, floating lines, and a well-rounded selection of shrimp, crab, baitfish, and GT flies. If you’re after something specific, let us know and we’ll help you build the right setup.
